We met the first week attending West Coast Baptist Bible College in the fall of 2003. We dated four years and then were married in June of 2007. We both surrendered to any ministry God would call us to. After college, Steven worked as a journeyman lineman for 16+ years, and Liz received her Masters in Biblical Counseling.
God blessed us through our first ten years together in life before we started to feel the pull of starting a youth camp. At this time, we expected this to be a retirement timeframe when we had the funds to begin such a venture and in turn, set aside the feelings until God made this His will and not just a burden. While living in California, God led us to move to Texas in 2018. By faith, God provided us a quick sale of our home, and Steven gave his 2-week notice to his long-term career. We moved our family of five into Texas with no job and an old mobile home to live in.
God blessed us richly over the next few years, and He guided us into a profitable real estate venture. During this business venture, God began to remind us of the pull of camp that seemed too far to reach before. We began to daily seek God in His will of starting a camp. After completion of this real estate dealing, God made it clear to us what He would have us do with the upcoming years of our lives. He provided property that fit all the needs for a camp and still was centrally located in Texas. He has continued to reaffirm that this is His will by multiple blessings along the way.
We are excited to see how God will work in this camp now and long after we are gone. Please pray and join with us in this journey to found a Christian Youth Camp in Central Texas that will continue to reach and grow youth for many years to come!
We met in Oklahoma at the end of 2013 when Naomi began training at the trade school where David worked. In 2015 we were married and moved to Waco, Texas where God blessed us with two children whom Naomi homeschools.
When the Rigbys moved to Waco in 2018, the two families met at Greater Waco Baptist Church and became good friends. Once Steve felt sure of God’s leading to start Deep Roots Ranch, he approached David about becoming a board member so the non-profit could be established. As the families met to discuss the planning and construction of the camp, God began to burden us to take on a greater role in the ministry. This burden was confirmed after hearing a missionary preach on surrendering to God and asking Him what His will was for our lives.
It is thrilling to be given this new purpose and amazing to see how God has guided our lives specifically to this ministry! We are eager to watch Him transform the lives of each person this ministry will touch.
